Ashbourne town (1 1/2 miles) boasts a variety of interesting shops, restaurants, pubs and a leisure centre with swimming pool.

Dovedale, an area of outstanding natural beauty is within walking distance.

Alton Towers is a mere 20 minute drive away, as are Beaver Hall equestrian centre and water sports facilities at Carsington reservoir.

There is a pub at Mappleton, and the cycle hire centre at the Tissington Trail is located at the edge of the village.

There is a bus service available from the village to Ashbourne and Buxton.
